Steven H. Levin

Steven Levin is a partner in the Commercial Real Estate, Corporate/Commercial, Mergers & Acquisitions and Technology practices in the New York office. He was responsible for opening the New York office of the firm in 1984.

Steve has represented a broad range of entities, with a particular emphasis on international mergers and acquisitions, foreign investment in the United States, joint ventures and commercial real estate.

Representative Work

  • Acted for AbitibiBowater Inc. in the sale of its Snowflake, Arizona mill to Catalyst Paper Corporation in a transaction valued at US$161 million.

  • Acted for Cadim Inc. (a division of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec) in connection with its partnership arrangements with Westmont Hospitality Group and Cadbridge Investors LP, and acted for Cadbridge and InnVest REIT in connection with their joint negotiated takeover bid for Legacy Hotels REIT in a transaction valued at approximately $2.5 billion.

  • Acted for Amcor Limited in its acquisition of Alcan Packaging operations from Rio Tinto plc in 31 countries for approximately US$2 billion. The acquisition enhances Amcor's position as one of the world's leading packaging companies.

  • Acted for Hydro-Québec International and Fonds de solidarité des travailleurs du Québec in the sale of Consorcio TransMantaro SA to Interconexíon Eléctrica SA ESP and Empresa de Energía de Bogotá SA ESP in a transaction valued at $117.5 million.

  • Acted for Novacap Industries III, L.P., a leading Canadian private equity and venture fund, in connection with its US$87-million acquisition of Idaho Pacific Holdings, Inc. and its Canadian and U.S. subsidiaries.

  • Acted for Jesta Capital Group in connection with its acquisition of the Fox Mobile Group, the wireless entertainment division of News Corporation.

  • Acted for a subsidiary of Amcor Limited in the sale of Amcor's U.S. subsidiary, Marshall Flexibles LLC, to Printpak Inc.

  • Acted for Lone Star Real Estate Fund with respect to the acquisition through a private REIT of a portfolio of senior care communities located throughout the United States.

  • Acted for E-Z-EM, Inc. in its merger with Bracco Diagnostics, Inc., a subsidiary of Bracco Imaging S.p.A., an Italian medical device manufacturer, for a cash purchase price of approximately US$240 million.

  • Acted for Cadim Inc. (a division of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec) in connection with its partnership arrangements with Westmont Hospitality Group and Citigroup in connection with their joint negotiated US$1.32 billion acquisition of Red Roof Inns Inc.

  • Acted for Cadim Inc. (a division of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec) in connection with the Westmont/CDP Hotel Fund I, a US$550 million off-shore real estate investment fund to acquire hotel assets worldwide, and Westmont/CDP Hotel Fund II.

  • Acted for CDP Capital in partnership with Westmont Hospitality Group and Desjardins, in connection with the formation of a US$376-million investment fund to acquire and invest in hotels worldwide, excluding Canada.

  • Acted for Australia-based Amcor Limited in the sale of its White Cap business in Europe, Asia, Brazil and the US to Silgan Holdings Inc. for a base price of $230 million.
